Garrett Owen Thomas is a businessman, data analyst and a writer. He is also a publicist and a Backstage expert. Born and brought up in Oxnard (California), Garrett finished his graduation from the University of Arizona. He has worked with several media companies such as CBS, Condé Nast, FOX and Kantar Media.
Garrett started his career as a restaurant publicist in Tucson (Arizona). He later moved to Houston (Texas) where he began working in technology publicity, promoting software and online publicity integration for Fortune 500 companies.
Post gaining enough experience, Garrett decided to proceed with his expertise in the field of publicity to the entertainment industry.
He got his first job in New York as a celebrity publicist for Def Jam artist Jeremih. While Garrett collaborated with Def Jam and CAA, Jeremih received a 2012 Billboard Awards nomination for top R&B song. Since then, he has worked with various celebrities by educating them about publicity in the entertainment industry.
In 2013, he built PressHarvest, a red carpet event that allowed users to submit themselves for media and talent at movie premieres and product releases. During the same year, Garrett began to write columns with Backstage magazine to help aspiring actors and musicians by providing insightful information on public relations and publicity. Through his columns, Garrett assists people to promote their work through social strategies, provides organization tips to maximize career opportunities, marketing web series etc.
In the year 2016, Garrett started his own company called The Tropic Laundry, a machine that tracks, analyzes, and enhances waste management systems to better determine products for further classification, in hopes of limiting recyclable waste that is misclassified.
According to Thomas, Publicity is something that everyone in the entertainment industry should be conscious of and that is what he has been doing for a long time now, raising publicity awareness.
