According to some online reports, Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe is feared dead after he collapsed with a heart attack while on holiday with his family in Singapore. This is not the first time that online media have killed Mugabe who has been President of Zimbabwe since 1980 when he took over from British colonialists.
However, there has been no official communication from the Zimbabwe government or George Charamba (Mugabe’s spokesperson) to deny or confirm the rumor which is steadily gaining traction across social media platforms.
Lately, Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party has been shaken up by internal wrangles and battles on who will succeed the 91 year old as the sun seemingly sets on his long rule. Currently, the main contenders seem to be Robert Mugabe’s wife, “Amai” Mrs. Grace Mugabe and his long serving security chief and adviser, Deputy President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mugabe’s age has been the cause for concern for many Zimbabweans and ever since Mugabe read the wrong speech in parliament last year, the concern has intensified.
